SunTrust CEO to Speak at Executive Forum

MACON — L. Phillip Humann, chairman, president and chief executive officer of SunTrust Banks Inc., will kick-off the spring 2002 series of Mercer University’s Executive Forum.

He will speak at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 12, in Cecil B. Day Hall on Mercer’s Atlanta campus and later that day at 6:30 p.m.at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Macon.

As Georgia’s premier business enrichment program, Mercer’s Executive Forum provides an opportunity for executives to hear from some of the country’s most sought-after speakers, while interacting with other business leaders.

Humann was appointed by the Bank of Atlanta to represent the Sixth Federal Reserve District on the Federal Advisory Council in 2001 and has participated in the creation of some of the most significant Federal Reserve policies and rate changes in the past 30 years.

After joining Trust Company Bank’s commercial banking training program in 1969, Humann advanced through various management positions before becoming chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Trust Company Bank, Atlanta, in 1985. In 1989, he was elected an executive vice president of Sun Trust Banks Inc., and in 1990, he was promoted to senior executive vice president–banking. In 1991 he was elected president, and, in March 1998, he was elected chairman, president and chief executive officer.

Serving on the boards of numerous community, civic, business and social organizations, Humann is a member of the board of directors of Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc., Equifax Inc., and Haverty Furniture Companies Inc.

He also serves on the Georgia State University College of Business Board of Advisors and on the Westmister Schools of Atlanta Board of Trustees. He serves on the board of the American Cancer Society Inc. and Saint Joseph’s Health System and is a member of the The Financial Services Roundtable. Humann received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in economics from Auburn University.

The Executive Forum is a membership-based speaker series designed to link the business community to Mercer’s Eugene W. Stetson School of Business and Economics. Established in 1979, the Executive Forum serves as a resource for working professionals in Macon and Atlanta.
