National Expert to Speak on Improving College Transition

WHO: Dr. Robert Shoenberg, senior fellow for the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AACU) and co-author of “The Academy in Transition: Contemporary Understandings of Liberal Education.”


WHAT: Shoenberg will preview the eagerly anticipated follow-up piece to “Contemporary Understandings,” due to be published within the next 18 months. Shoenberg will share national trends in educational reform and examine the implications for the content and organization of higher learning.

WHY: Many universities have used Shoenberg’s book as a point of departure for their own analyses of the direction of educational change. His goal is to inspire faculty members and academic leaders to think creatively about the educational community they want to create. He served as dean of undergraduate studies for 14 years at the University of Maryland-College Park. He is the current chair of the Montgomery College Board of Trustees. He serves as a program evaluator for the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE), and for AAC & U’s Program in Health and Higher Education, and he has worked with hundreds of institutions over the past decade.
