MACON – The timeless sounds of traditional jazz come to Macon with the arrival of one of the greatest jazz bands of our day. Preservation Hall Jazz Band will perform at The Grand Opera House at 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 11. Tickets will be $15 for general admission.

Named after one of New Orleans’ most prominent landmarks, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band plays a form of jazz characterized by a slower tempo, as well as a melody always rich with improvisation. The musicians range in age from 33 to 92 and present a distinctive style of jazz that seeks to preserve the music that evolved in New Orleans around the turn of the last century by bringing it to contemporary audiences.

The group has been touring the United States for more than 25 years. They have made appearances at Carnegie Hall in New York City and Boston’s Symphony Hall. Preservation Hall’s brand of jazz is in high demand overseas as well and has earned the group performances in Thailand and at the Red Sea Jazz Festival in Israel.
