Davis Named Technical Communication Associate Fellow

MACON— Mercer University School of Engineering professor Dr. Marjorie T. Davis has been named an associate fellow for the Society of Technical Communication.

She was selected for this honor in recognition of her significant contributions to the Society and to the field of technical communication. Davis is one of only a handful of the professional society’s more than 25,000 members to achieve this prestigious rank. Currently, 126 members of this international organization hold the title of associate fellow.

In order to be considered for this rank, a member must have been active in the field of technical communication for at least 15 years and a member of the society for at least 10 years. The individual must then be recommended for the honor by other STC members, and the rank must be conferred by a two-thirds vote of the STC Board of Directors.

“To be recognized by my peers for excellence in teaching technical communication is certainly an honor,” said Davis, who serves as chair of Mercer’s Technical Communication Department.

A Roberta resident, Davis founded the Technical Communication Department in Mercer’s School of Engineering in 1989. During a recent accreditation review, Mercer’s technical communication department was cited as a strength of the University’s engineering program.

Davis has served as an educator for 30 years. She previously served as an English professor and associate provost at Mercer.  She is the faculty advisor to the Mercer student STC chapter and has served as co-manager of the STC Region 3 Student Conference as well as treasurer of Atlanta’s STC chapter.

In 2002, she received the STC’s Jay R. Gould Award for Excellence in Teaching Technical Communication and a Distinguished Technical Communication Award in the Frank R. Smith Outstanding Journal Article Competition.
