MACON- Recent studies show as much as 10 percent of college students decide to transfer to another institution during or after their freshman year.
Some students discover the college or university they selected as a high school student is not the perfect fit for them. The institution may be too large or too small or it may not provide the collegiate experience that the student had hoped to have. Other students may elect to start their studies at one institution and transfer into a degree program that is better tailored to their future career path.
Mercer will hold Transfer Information Sessions on Sunday, Nov. 30, and Sunday, Dec. 28, for undergraduate students interested in transferring to Mercer in spring or fall 2004. These sessions will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Mercer School of Medicine on the University’s Macon campus.
“With the large university resources of 10 schools and colleges, yet the personal attention that comes with an average class size of 25, Mercer provides the perfect atmosphere for students to succeed,” said Allen London, vice president for University admissions at Mercer. “Transfer students are an important part of our student body, and we try to make the transition as smooth as possible.”
Ashley Devane of Macon says Mercer has been a great fit for her. “As a transfer student coming from a large university, I find that I perform better in a smaller environment where I can be more focused on my academics and my professors have time to give me individual attention. Mercer has surpassed my expectations,” she said.
Students who attend the information sessions will learn about Mercer’s diverse program options, meet with an adviser, have academic transcripts evaluated, and discuss financial assistance opportunities.
