Macon—Mercer University School of Medicine student Angel Boev of Macon was recently awarded an Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Student Research Fellowship for 2004. He is one of approximately 40 recipients nationally who is receiving the $3,000 award.
Boev, a fourth-year medical student, is the first student to receive the AOA fellowship at Mercer. The award supports his research, which involves establishing a databank of normal values for quantitative pupillometry in children, and correlating it to that of pediatric patients with increased intracranial pressure. Dr. Chris Troup, a pediatric neurosurgeon in Macon, serves as Boev’s project adviser.
Boev completed his undergraduate education at Valdosta State University. He is the husband of Christine Boev of Macon.
AOA is the only national medical honor society in the world. It recognizes and works to perpetuate excellence in the medical professions by promoting scholarship and research and by encouraging high standards of character and conduct among medical students and graduates.
