As chairman and chief executive of Sea Island Company, Jones served as the host for the G8 Summit that brought President George W. Bush and other world leaders to the exclusive resort and real-estate development off Georgia’s coast.

Jones’s leadership is being felt throughout the state. He is a charter member of Gov. Sonny Perdue’s Commission for a New Georgia, a group charged with helping the governor find ways to make state government more efficient. He serves as a director for the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and is a trustee for The Nature Conservancy of Georgia. A former chairman of the Georgia Ports Authority, Jones is a trustee and a past chairman of the Georgia Research Alliance. He is also a director for Synovus Financial Corp. and Total Systems Services Inc.

Named “Georgian of the Year” in 2004 by Georgia Trend magazine, Jones was the 2003 regional winner of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Principled Leadership. In 1994, he received the Freedom Award from the Brunswick, Ga., branch of the NAACP.

Founded in 1928, Sea Island Co. owns and operates The Cloister Hotel, The Lodge at Sea Island and The Lodge at Cabin Bluff, and the private clubs Ocean Forest Golf Club and Frederica Golf Club. Its real-estate activities include development of the private home cottage colony on Sea Island, and several exclusive communities on neighboring St. Simons Island.
