Mercer to Host Research in Mathematics Conference

WHO:  More than 60 students and faculty from 13 colleges and universities in Georgia and Tennessee. 
 
WHAT:  Faculty and students will participate in the first Mercer University Undergraduate Research in Mathematics Conference.

Friday, April 15:

3 p.m.—     Undergraduate student research presentations
4:30 p.m.— Student problem-solving contest
6:30 p.m.— Georgia Mathematics Association of America
dinner, featuring a presentation on “Calculating the Secrets of Life: Mathematics in Biology and Medicine” by Dr. DeWitt Sumners, Florida State University’s Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor of Mathematics
Saturday, April 16:

8:30 a.m.—   Undergraduate student research presentations
10 a.m.—  Presentation on “DNA Topology” by Dr.
DeWitt Sumners, Florida State University’s Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor of Mathematics
WHERE:  Mercer University Macon Campus, 1400 Coleman Avenue, 
The Friday dinner will be in the Religious Life Center.
All other events will take place in the Mercer University School of Medicine Auditorium.
 
BACKGROUND:  This conference is partially funded by a grant from the Mathematics Association of America and the National Science Foundation.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the student presentations and competition on Friday and all Saturday events.
