Mercer Introduces Revised Joint J.D./MBA Program

MACON— Beginning in August, Mercer University will offer a revised joint J.D./M.B.A. degree program that can be completed in just three years. While the University has offered such programs in the past, this is the first in which participants can complete requirements for both professionally accredited degrees over a span of just three calendar years, while still gaining clerking experience during the summers.

“I am excited that we were able to capitalize on the synergies between the two programs, enabling us to offer the joint degree on a three-year basis,” said Dr. Linda Brennan, Associate Professor of Management and Director of Graduate Programs for the Eugene W. Stetson School of Business and Economics. “This is not something that is commonly found in professionally accredited schools.”

The university’s Walter F. George School of Law also will begin offering law students opportunities to complete two certificate programs through the business school this fall. Law students may use certain MBA courses as electives in their law studies, earning either a Certificate in Practice Management or a Certificate in Corporate Finance. These programs may be particularly helpful to students who want to manage their own practices or to go into corporate law.

Ellison C. Palmer Professor of Tax Law David A. Brennen said the law faculty is excited about the new business offerings for Mercer law students.

“Both programs are representative of the many opportunities available at Mercer for interdisciplinary graduate study,” he said. “The newly revised joint degree program offers exceptionally motivated Mercer students the opportunity to obtain two graduate degrees in only three calendar years— a remarkable accomplishment.  Additionally, the new certificate program provides law students with the opportunity to enhance their law school studies by concentrating on certain aspects of business as they relate to law.”
