MACON, Ga. – In an article written by Mark Etheridge for sebaseball.com on Jan. 10, he tabbed the Bears as one of the teams to watch in the Atlantic Sun Conference in 2006.

“We feel like we have put together a team that is very able to compete in the A-Sun this season,” head coach Craig Gibson said. “It is nice to receive some recognition for the effort we have put in as a team and a staff, both recruiting and on the field.”

Etheridge points to the Bears depth on the mound as one of the keys to their success. Mercer returns three of its top starters and its top four arms out of the bullpen.

Junior catcher Josh Thompson (.319, 11 2B, 12 HR, 46 RBI) is listed as one of the top catching prospects in the south and anchors the Mercer battery heading in to 2006.
