Emerson Named Academic All-District First Team

MACON, Ga.-  Junior forward Will Emerson was named to the 2006 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Men’s Basketball District III team announced Thursday.

The St. Mary’s, Ga., native carries a perfect 4.0 GPA while majoring in biology.

“We are proud of Will’s efforts in the classroom, and we are glad to see that he is being recognized for his accomplishments,” said Mercer head coach Mark Slonaker. “We hope this will bode well for him as he attempts to repeat as a First Team Academic All-America selection.”

Already a four-time Academic All-Conference honoree, Emerson has started every game for the Bears this season, and 49 consecutive games dating back to last season. He is third on the team in scoring, averaging 11.1 points per game, and leads the squad with 6.7 rebounds. Emerson has scored in double figures in 24 of his last 30 games and recorded five double-doubles this season.

Emerson is joined on the team by Lee Humphrey of Florida, Alex Loughton of Old Dominion, Kyle Visser of Wake Forest, Jack Leasure of Coastal Carolina and Chris Chalko of Elon.
