MACON, Ga. – Last week, Mercer defeated the top-ranked Florida Gators and swept Bethune-Cookman, earning Andrew Urena his first Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week award. Now the Bears travel to #1 ranked Clemson for a three-game set.

“This is another great opportunity for our guys to play against top competition in one of college baseball’s best atmospheres,” head coach Craig Gibson said. “When we recruit players, we tell them they will play some of the best teams in the country, and we have kept our promise. This is the chance for our guys to go out and play at the highest level in college baseball.”

Clemson (3-0) is ranked #1 by Baseball America and opened their season last weekend with a sweep of James Madison.

Tyler Colvin had three hits for the Tigers in the opening series, all homers. Herman Demmink led Clemson with five hits in the series.

Tiger pitching allowed a total of 10 hits and two runs in the three-game series.

Mercer (8-2) is riding a four-game winning streak, including a defeat of another of the nation’s #1 ranked teams. The Florida Gators were ranked first in the College Baseball Newspapers (CBN) poll.

Urena earned the save against Florida on Feb. 15, then two more in the weekend sweep of Bethune-Cookman. For his effort, he was named Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week.

Mercer and Clemson open the weekend series on Friday; first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
