Godsey to Speak, Leavell to Perform at Macon Ceremony

MACON — A new line-up has been announced for Mercer University’s largest commencement, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, in the University Center on the Macon campus. Mercer President and CEO R. Kirby Godsey will deliver the commencement address, followed by a short performance by jazz and rock and roll musician Chuck Leavell, who is, most notably, keyboardist for the Rolling Stones. Four hundred sixty-seven students from the College of Liberal Arts, Eugene W. Stetson School of Business and Economics, the School of Engineering and the Tift College of Education will receive degrees during the ceremony.  The University will hold 10 commencements during May.
Two honorary degrees will be awarded during the Macon commencement: Doctor of Music to Chuck Leavell, musician and conservationist; and Doctor of Humanities to Philip Walden (posthumously), founder of Capricorn Records and Velocette Records.
