WHY:         President Godsey will be stepping down at the end of June after more than 27 years at the helm of the University. His long tenure has allowed him to participate in the commencements of generations of Mercerians. Numerous multi-generation families will be in attendance to watch their graduates at the main Macon Commencement, and to watch President Godsey preside over it. The Rev. Williamson and his wife, Catherine, participated in Godsey’s first spring commencement as graduates in 1980 and will now watch their daughter, Andilyn, graduate in one of Godsey’s last commencements as president before he retires and becomes chancellor in July.
