WHO: Three Mercer University ROTC cadets, including Lucas DeStevens, of Mexico, N.Y., who is ranked No. 45 in the nation out of the more than 4,000 ROTC cadets, will be commissioned as officers in the United States Army. Mercer University Medical School graduate Lt. Col. Robert C. Campbell, M.D. will address the new officers.
WHAT: ROTC cadets will be commissioned as U.S. Army second lieutenants after graduating from Mercer that same day.
WHEN: Saturday, May 13, at 3 p.m.
WHERE: Newton Chapel, Mercer’s Macon Campus. Newton is on the corner of Coleman Avenue and Adams Street, across Adams from the President’s Home.
WHY: Following the ceremony, Allan Pitchford III, of Warner Robins, Ga., will be entering active duty in the Aviation Corps. DeStevens will enter the U.S. Army Reserve as a part of the Signal Corps in order to purse a Ph.D. in Human Genetic Engineering. Jason Glow of Juliette, Ga., will be commissioned in the Medical Service Corps and will defer his service to attend the Mercer University School of Medicine in the fall. Charles Chatham IV of Oxford, Ala., will also be recognized during the ceremony. Chatham will be commissioned in the Quartermaster Corps after completion of his final coursework this summer. Jules Toraya, who has already graduated, will also be recognized. He is currently serving in Afghanistan in the Medical Service Corps.
