MACON — The Robert McDuffie Center for Strings at Mercer University will host its first recital on Monday, Nov. 13, when the international noted chamber ensemble, The Diaz Trio, performs at 7:30 p.m. The event will take place in the Neva Langling Fickling Recital Hall of the McCorkle Music Building on Mercer University’s Macon campus. While free and open to the public, tickets are required for admissions due to the limited seating. The free tickets are available through Mercer Ticket Sales at (478) 301-5470.
The Diaz Trio features renowned musicians and brothers Roberto Díaz, viola, and Andrés Díaz, cello, who is also a Distinguished Artist of the Robert McDuffie Center, as well as renowned violinist Andrés Cárdenes. The Díaz Trio will make two visits per year to the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings. During those visits, they will perform, coach and teach master classes.
The Diaz Trio is one of the few professional string trios in existence today. It has become one of the best chamber music ensembles in the United States. Comprised of three dynamic young artists, the ensemble performs regularly in recital and at festivals around the world. In 1993, at the invitation of Isaac Stern, the trio performed at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall to celebrate the next one hundred years of music-making at Carnegie Hall. The trio has been in residence at the Brevard Music Center since 2001.
Other appearances include performances in Los Angeles, Seattle, Pittsburgh, Boston, El Paso, Austin and Lincoln Center in New York, as well as the Mostly Mozart Festival at Kennedy Center, Newport Festival, Cape and Islands Chamber Music Festival, Festival de San Miguel de Allende in Mexico, St. Cyprien International Festival of the Arts in France, the Kuhmo Festival in Finland and an extensive tour of Chile. The Díaz Trio has also toured in collaboration with Canadian pianist Angela Cheng and guitarist Norbert Kraft. The Díaz Trio also performs regularly on the series of both the Corcoran Gallery and Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C.
