Libraries Sponsor Memberships to Boys and Girls Club

In honor of the holiday season, the Mercer University Libraries sponsored 36 children with $5 annual memberships to the Boys and Girls Club of Central Georgia for a total amount of $180.

The Boys and Girls Club of Central Georgia is located in Macon and the President/CEO, Mike Killen, is a dedicated community participant of the Mercer University Planning Council. Research indicates that Project Learn, one of their programs, indicated an overall grade-point-average 15 percent higher than youth in generic after-school programs.

Killen graciously accepted the donation at the annual in-service Christmas program on Dec. 19 at the Monroe F. Swilley Jr. Library in Atlanta. He said that he, as well as Mercer Chancellor Dr. R. Kirby Godsey, were once members of the organization.

Killen said, “In providing this donation, we have possibly served future leaders from the Macon area.

Their mission is to inspire and enable youth to become responsible citizens who will continue generations of preparing youth.”
