‘Generations Through Traditions’ is Theme for 2007 Homecoming

“Generations Through Traditions” is the theme for Homecoming 2007, which is being organized by Quad Works and celebrated through Feb. 17 on the Macon campus. Highlights of this year’s Homecoming will once again be a televised men’s basketball game on Friday night — when the Homecoming Court will be announced at halftime, a Women’s Basketball Reunion, Founder’s Day Convocation and the naming of new members into the Athletic Hall of Fame.

Friday, Feb. 9
The first Homecoming activity scheduled is Stompfest at the Grand Opera House beginning at 7 p.m. Stompfest is a step show competition with Mercer and other universities participating.

Saturday, Feb. 10
Students interested in participating in the Skit Competition will gather at Willingham Auditorium for a skit preview.

Sunday, Feb. 11
Activities include the beginning exhibits of Mini-Heritage Hall (will continue all week) on the second floor of Tarver Library; Banner Competition in the Connell Student Center at 3 p.m.; Hall Decoration Competition in the residence halls at 3 p.m.; and a Stationary Float Competition at Porter Patch at 3 p.m.

Monday, Feb. 12
Departments across campus will decorate throughout the day for Homecoming Week and the Skit Competition will begin at 8 p.m. at Willingham.

Tuesday, Feb. 13
Time to start preparing for Valentine’s Day by making Valentine’s cards in Connell Student Center from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Comedian Dan Adhoot will be featured at Willingham at 7 p.m.

Wednesday, Feb. 14
Happy Valentine’s Day! Founders Day, sponsored by the Student Government Association, will be held at Willingham at 10 a.m. Speaker is the Honorable Brooks P. Coleman Jr., a member of the Georgia House of Representatives. The baseball team will host Georgia State at 4 p.m. at Claude Smith Field and the softball team will host Alabama State at 5 p.m. at Sikes Field.

Thursday, Feb. 15
Discount Day will be observed at the Mercer Bookstore from 8:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Trivia Night begins at 6 p.m. at Bear Rock Café in the University Center.

Friday, Feb. 16
Something for everyone this day, designated as Spirit Day. New members will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. A tailgate party begins at 6 p.m. at Porter Patch with a Grill Cook-off at 6:30 p.m. The men’s basketball team hosts Jacksonville University at 7:30 p.m. in the UC Arena in an Atlantic Sun Conference game televised by ComCast across the Southeast. The homecoming court will be announced at halftime.

Saturday, Feb. 17
The final day of Homecoming includes the Strive Run (road race), sponsored by the Students Athletic Advisory Committee, at 9:30 a.m. and the Women’s Basketball Reunion in the Presidents Dining Room at 12 p.m.
