MACON — Mercer’s Binary Bears are 6,800 miles away preparing to compete in the 2007 ACM International Computer Programming Contest in Tokyo, Japan, but fans are just a mouse-click away from the latest updates on the team. Mercer’s Computer Science Department has developed a way for fans of the computer programming team to keep up with the team’s activities this week as the team prepares for, and competes in, the World Finals.
The team arrived in Japan on Sunday, March 11, to compete against 88 teams from around the world, including only 20 other schools from the United States.
The competition will take place Thursday, March 15, at 8 a.m. local time in Tokyo, 13 hours ahead of Macon, or 7 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, March 14. The latest updates on the competition will be posted on the web at http://icpc.baylor.edu/icpc/Finals/. In the meantime, fans can follow the team with daily updates on the Computer Science homepage, http://www.cs.mercer.edu/new/. The Binary Bears team is made up of senior Britt Daniel, of Grovetown, a computer science and math major; junior David Thomas of Macon, a computer science and math major; and senior John Wright of Warner Robins, a computer science major. Advisor Andy Digh, an associate professor of Computer Science, is also traveling with the team.
