MACON — Mercer University will offer a continuing education workshop on psychopharmacology from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, at the Woodruff House, 981 Bond Street. The workshop, entitled “A Multidisciplinary Approach: Evolving Insights from Neuroscience and Psychopharmacology for the Helping Professional,” is co-sponsored by the Middle Georgia Psychological Association. The event is co-sponsored and hosted by the Department of Counseling and Human Sciences of Mercer’s College of Continuing and Professional Studies.
The workshop is open to psychologists, licensed professional counselors, social workers and marriage and family therapists. Registration is $70 for counselors before Oct. 26 and $80 thereafter. The registration fee for students is $25 and $65 for members of the Middle Georgia Psychological Association. The program provides up to four Psychology continuing education units, three and a half CEs from the Licensed Professional Counseling Association for licensed professional counselors, 3.75 CEs for social workers from the National Association of Social Workers, and 3.75 CEs for marriage and family therapists.
The presentation will share the latest trends and developments in working with individuals ranging from the so-called “worried well” to the treatment-challenged. In addition, attendees will gain a clearer understanding of the role of medication and supplements in the context of a psychotherapeutic approach and hear about new applications from neuroscientific research that are being practiced in Georgia. Psychologists, counselors, pastoral counselors, social workers, psychiatrists, spiritual directors and others responsible for improving the mental health of individuals will benefit from this seminar, which addresses the whole person – emotionally, spiritually and physically.
Dr. Albert Davis will facilitate the workshop. Davis received his Medical Doctor degree from Emory University, completed his psychiatric residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City and is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Davis’ practice consists of individual, marital and family psychotherapy: insight oriented, analytic-based, Jungian perspective of psychology as a challenge in the journey of personal and spiritual growth.
