MACON — Because of inclement weather at the host site on Jan. 19, the Georgia Collegiate Wrestling Championships were postponed and moved to Mercer University. The event will now be held Saturday, Jan. 26 in the gymnasium of the Communication and Theater Arts on Mercer’s Macon campus.

The event, sanctioned by the National Collegiate Wrestling Association, was to be held at Kennesaw State University, but was canceled because of weather conditions and Kennesaw could not host the event this weekend. As a result, the Mercer Duals tournament, which was scheduled to take place on Saturday, will be held at a later date.

The event will feature more than 40 wrestlers, including nine from Mercer, from Darton College, East Georgia College, Georgia Tech, Gordon College, Kennesaw State University, Southern Polytechnic State University and the University of Georgia.  Two Mercer wrestlers, sophomore Curtis Doemel at 149 pounds and law student Jared Westbroek at heavyweight are ranked No. 1 in the state in their divisions.

For more information, contact Mercer coach Kevin Andres at kandres@mercerwrestling.com or (478) 960-6093. The wrestling program at Mercer is a part of the NCWA and is not among the sports included in intercollegiate athletics.
