Mercer Students, Faculty, Staff to Help Historic Macon with Neighborhood Cleanup

721

MACON — Mercer University students, faculty and staff will join the Historic Macon Foundation and Beall’s Hill residents in a Neighborhood Cleanup on Thursday at 3 p.m. The event will be followed by a cookout at 5 p.m. for participants.

The Cleanup will begin at the pocket park between Ross Street and Ross Street Lane and conclude at the pocket park, where the cookout will be held. The food and drinks are free.

The City of Macon will provide a dumpster, garbage bags and gloves. The city is also launching a new program called Cash For Trash, where neighborhoods earn $5 for each bag of litter they collect from their streets.

In conjunction with the cleanup and cookout, the Historic Macon Foundation will hold an Open House for the homes it has restored or is in the process of restoring in Beall’s Hill.

The event, with assistance from several Mercer students, is a collaboration between Historic Macon Foundation, Macon Bibb County Land Bank Authority and the City of Macon Economic and Community Development Department.  Representatives of this partnership will be cutting the ribbon on a totally restored historic house at 1211 Ross Street in celebration of National Community Development Week. The ribbon cutting will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday.

All events are free and open to the public.
