MACON — More than 200 Mercer University students will show off what they have learned at the University Center on Mercer’s Macon campus. The students will showcase their talents on Friday, April 18, as part of two events, the Inaugural Engineering Expo and the Second Annual Mercer University Undergraduate Research Symposium. Both events will take place from 2 – 5 p.m.
The Mercer Undergraduate Research Symposium
The event will include 35 poster presentations by 47 undergraduate students from 10 departments across the Macon campus from 2 – 4 p.m. in Heritage Hall. The event will include students from the College of Liberal Arts, School of Engineering and School of Medicine.
At 4 p.m., the event will move to the Presidents Dining Room for a keynote address “Undergraduate Research, the Future of The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education: An Example in Malaria Research,” by Moses Lee, Dean of Natural Sciences at Hope College in Michigan.
Engineering Expo
The Inaugural Mercer Engineering Expo is an expansion of the extraordinarily successful Introduction to Engineering Design Competition of The School of Engineering. The Expo will be held in the University Center Arena. The event will open at 2 p.m., showcasing engineering student organizations, senior design projects, honors projects, student-faculty research and class projects, as well as the annual Introduction to Engineering Design Competition. The competition portion of the Expo will feature teams of three to four first-year engineering students pitting their designs against each other in Cable Car, Hill Climber, Off Road Derby, Rampster, and Tug-of-War events. The competitions will start at 3 p.m. with winners determined by 5 p.m.
