MACON, Ga. – Mercer’s 20th annual “Big Auction,” to benefit the Bears’ Athletics program, will be held at the Grand Opera House, Thursday, May 29. Silent items will be up for bid from noon until 7 p.m., with live items going on the block at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.

This year’s auction again features a “reverse raffle” with a $10,000 cash prize going to the winner. Tickets for the raffle are $100 each and are on sale now. Only 300 tickets will be sold. Each ticket stub from the raffle will admit two people to the hospitality area.

Numerous outstanding items will be up for bid, including trips to Mexico, Hilton Head, St. Simon’s Island, Tybee Island and weeklong stays at a mountain retreat in North Carolina and a Vermont chalet. Among the sports memorabilia are footballs signed by the NFL’s all-time leading scorer and field goal kicker, Morten Anderson; a baseball signed by Hall of Famer Phil Niekro; a 1996 Atlanta Olympics golf bag and a Mark Richt autographed photo.

Rounds of golf at nationally-recognized courses throughout the Southeast are also part of the live auction. The silent auction features items such as ticket packages to the Georgia National Fair, selected Braves games, selected Mercer summer camps and two practice round tickets to the 2009 Masters.
