June 13, 2008

Andrew Silver, associate professor of English, will be interviewed on Georgia Public Broadcasting’s statewide news program, “Georgia Gazette,” today at 6 p.m. Silver, who also teaches in the First Year Seminar program, will speak about the prevalence of sex trafficking in Macon.

Silver and his FYS 102 class researched sex trafficking after studying the concepts of justice in the Judeo-Christian tradition and were surprised by the scope of the problem in Macon.  In the latter half of spring semester, students from Silver’s class, along with some of Dr. Mary Alice Morgan's students from the Women’s and Gender Studies program, along with Chris Fuller and members of Baptist Collegiate Ministries, founded an organization called S.T.O.P., the Sex Trafficking Opposition Project, to raise awareness about the issue.

“Georgia Gazette” is a news program that showcases topics from politics to arts and culture throughout Georgia. It airs each weeknight at 6 p.m. on local GPB stations and at 7 p.m. in Athens. In Macon, the show airs on WMUM 89.7FM. To listen online, visit for a live stream of the broadcast, or listen to the podcast at after the interview. For a list of GPB stations, visit
