MACON — Coach William “Bill” Yoast, 1949 graduate of Mercer University who was chronicled in the movie, “Remember the Titans,” will be the keynote speaker at Founders’ Day on the Macon campus Wednesday, Feb. 11. The program will begin at 10 a.m. in the Willingham Auditorium on the Macon Campus.

Coach Yoast, alongside coach Herman Boone, led the T. C. Williams High School football team to a Virginia state championship in 1971, the first year the school and football team were integrated.  The story of Yoast’s and Boone’s relationship was chronicled in the blockbuster movie “Remember the Titans,” starring Denzel Washington as Boone and Will Patton as Yoast.

Founders’ Day is sponsored by the Student Government Association, and offers a time for Mercerians to reflect on the University’s rich traditions and history, and to honor Mercer’s early pioneers.
