Provost Wallace L. Daniel has announced the appointment of a search committee to lead the process of recommending a dean for the College of Liberal Arts to succeed Dr. Richard Fallis. Dr. Fallis, who has led the College of Liberal Arts since 2001, announced in September his intention to retire as dean at the end of the current academic year and return to a full-time post in the English Department following a sabbatical.
The search committee will be chaired by Dr. Dale Moore, associate professor of chemistry and former associate dean for the College. Other search committee members include Dr. Mary Ann Drake, professor of interdisciplinary studies; Dr. Keith E. Howard, associate professor of mathematics; Dr. Jonathan C. Glance, professor of English; Dr. Caryn S. Seney, associate professor of chemistry; Dr. Will R. Jordan, associate professor of political science and director of the Great Books Program; Dr. Sarah E. Gardner, associate professor and chair of the Department of History and director of the Honors Program; Dr. Linda L. Hensel, associate professor of biology; Daisy H. Floyd, professor of law and dean of the Walter F. George School of Law; Dr. Craig D. Byron, assistant professor of biology; Dr. David A. Davis, assistant professor of English; and Dr. Richard F. Wilson, Columbus Roberts Professor of Theology and chair of the Department of Christianity. Dr. Daniel will serve as an ex officio member of the committee.
“I am deeply grateful to each of these individuals for the willingness to commit time, energy and expertise to the search process,” Dr. Daniel said. “The appointment of a dean for the University’s oldest academic unit is an important decision for Mercer, and we will be well served by the involvement of these faculty members as we conduct this national search.”
