‘Caribbean Sound’ to Help Haiti Relief Efforts

MACON – Enjoy an exciting evening of steel drums, world music, history, and tropical splendor at The Grand Opera House on Tuesday, Jan. 26, at 7:30 p.m. as Caribbean Sound presents a show-stopping entertainment experience. Centered on steel drums, the show mixes the sound and culture of the Caribbean through calypso, soca, and Latin music with classical, American pop and original compositions. Discover the diverse and controversial history behind this magnificent instrument and hear a remarkable blend of music performed on this truly innovative creation of the 20th century. The group’s sense of style and passion for their music captures the unique and colorful artistry and melodious atmosphere of the Caribbean in an exciting performance and an unforgettable evening of world music.

During its 20-year history Caribbean Sound has performed with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra in Owensboro, Ky., the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and the Rockford Symphony Orchestra. They have toured the Eastern U.S. performing evening concerts, orchestral programs, university programs, outdoor performances, and educational programs. September 2007 began their 10th year on the Florida State Touring Program through the Division of Cultural Affairs. They were an artist/clinician at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) in Orlando, Florida in 1998 and PASIC 01 in Nashville in November 2001.

Caribbean Sound has five CDs available, “Panic Attack” (94), “J’Ouvert Comin” (2000),

The Grand Opera House
