MACON/ATLANTA/SAVANNAH – Mercer University’s Eugene W. Stetson School of Business and Economics will launch a virtual Professional MBA program in January 2011. By combining the current PMBA’s cohort model with the latest in virtual classroom technology, the new program will allow students from the Macon, Atlanta and Savannah areas to study as one group at the Mercer campus in their area. Faculty will rotate between the three campuses, while utilizing the technology to keep all three groups connected.
“We are extremely pleased to offer our high quality, cohort PMBA program using this innovative new technology,” said Dr. Faye Sisk, director of the PMBA program. “The virtual classrooms will bring together students from across the state with sites situated in Macon, Savannah and Atlanta. The classrooms will ultimately create the feeling of being in one room together, and the interactive learning environment will provide an ideal space for candidates to develop the skills to enhance their careers and make more strategic business decisions.”
The virtual PMBA is designed for candidates with at least four years of managerial-level work experience. The cohort program allows all students to study together in cross-functional, thematically based courses. Unlike the traditional MBA model, which offers separate courses in such areas as accounting, finance, management and marketing, the PMBA curriculum demonstrates how these areas intersect and function together so candidates can gain the broad perspective needed for effective decision making.
Classes will be held Friday evenings and all day Saturday every two weeks, allowing even the busiest managers the opportunity to earn this professional degree from a school accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
In addition, students from all three campuses will meet in person in four retreats, which provide a concentrated study on specific business topics. This will include a weeklong Best Practices Field Residency, where students meet with top executives of companies successfully competing in today’s competitive market. The Field Residency experience allows students to experience business “across the globe.”
