MACON — An estimated 200 high school students from across the state will converge on Mercer’s Macon campus Saturday for the 26th Annual Mercer University High School Mathematics Contest. The daylong event will take place in the Medical School Auditorium, 1550 College St. The event begins at 9:45 a.m. with a welcome ceremony and concludes at approximately 3 p.m.

The teams will face off in two events, a written 45-question test from 10 to 11:45 a.m., and a fast-paced ciphering contest from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., in which students will have two minutes to complete complex math problems. Following the ciphering contest, volunteer judges — made up of Mercer math department faculty — will calculate the final results and present awards.

Organizers are expecting 26 teams, including squads from Macon’s First Presbyterian Day School, Mount De Sales Academy, Tattnall Square Academy and Stratford Academy, as well as Perry High School and Jones County High School.
