MACON – The Barnes & Noble at Mercer University opens its new store on Thursday, Feb. 10 at 8:30 a.m. Located in the College Hill Corridor at the Lofts at Mercer Village, the new bookstore seeks to attract a cross-section of the Mercer and Macon communities. In addition to serving the academic needs of students from both Mercer University and the Mercer University Law School, the school’s expanded trade book selection will encourage the broader Macon community to visit the store when they want to pick up a new best-seller or classic title.

“We are very proud to be a part of this initiative to expand the bookstore’s reach,” said Jamie Stange, Barnes & Noble regional manager. “We feel very connected to this community and are grateful to Mercer for making us part of this project.”

Visitors to the new store will also find a much larger selection of merchandise to choose from. “We will carry a broader array of products bearing the Mercer name or logo,” said bookstore manager Bill Green. “There is a tremendous pride for our school – not just on campus but all over Macon. Our new merchandise will help more people show their Mercer pride.”

Barnes & Noble has managed the Mercer University bookstore since 1990. During that time the bookstore has adapted to the changing tastes and needs of Mercer students. Most recently, the bookstore launched a popular textbook rental program that saves students more than 50 percent over purchasing a new, printed book. Additionally, the bookstore has a rapidly expanding list of eTextbooks (which save students upwards of 60 percent). eTextbooks can be read using NOOKstudy, the free application from Barnes & Noble which lets students “study smarter not harder” thanks to an expanding array of features that include online highlighting, color-coded note-taking and the ability to toggle between multiple eTextbooks simultaneously.

Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE: BKS), the world’s largest bookseller and a Fortune 500 company, operates 720 bookstores in 50 states. Barnes & Noble College Booksellers, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Barnes & Noble, also operates more than 630 campus bookstores serving nearly 4 million students and faculty members at colleges and universities across the United States.

The Lofts at Mercer Village is a multi-million dollar, mixed-used development located on Montpelier Avenue in the College Hill Corridor’s Mercer Village. Construction is nearly completely on the three stories of student loft-style apartments and first-floor retail space, which in addition to the Barnes & Noble at Mercer University, will include Fountain of Juice and Margaritas Mexican restaurants and Designer Tan salon. A grand opening of the new complex is being scheduled for early spring.
