MACON — Sixty-three upcoming graduates of the Mercer University School of Medicine will learn their next destinations and where they will serve residencies at the Class of 2011 Match Day on Thursday at 12 p.m., at the Cox Capital Theatre, 382 Second St., in downtown Macon. Both Macon and Savannah campus graduates will learn during the annual ceremony where they will begin serving residencies following commencement in May. This year’s Match Day, for the first time, will be held off campus and feature an Oscar theme.
Until Match Day, senior medical students are unsure where they will spend the next few years as residents. At noon on Thursday, medical students across the country will begin opening envelopes that contain their residency matches. Medical School students will be available for the media to interview.

Mercer University’s School of Medicine was established in 1982 to educate physicians and health professionals to meet the primary care and health care needs of rural and medically underserved areas of Georgia. The School only accepts Georgia residents into its medical degree program. Students entering Mercer University School of Medicine will be graduated from a school that utilizes a problem-based medical education program that provides early patient care experiences.
