MACON – Mercer University Athletics will unveil the winner of the voting for its football helmet design on Saturday at the BIG Bear Event at the University Center. Doors to the event – which is free and to which the public is invited – open at 6 p.m.

The announcement of the winning design will be made after those in attendance have had an opportunity to register their votes on the four choices during the evening.

Mercer football head coach Bobby Lamb will be on hand for the announcement and to answer questions.  Mercer will reinstate football beginning with the 2013 season.

The BIG Bear Event is a main fundraiser for Mercer’s athletics department and will also feature a Reverse Raffle with a $10,000 grand prize, silent and live auction items, senior student-athlete awards and team recognition. (Select silent auction items are available for early on-line bidding at http://www.mercerbears.com/marketplace/auctions/featured.)

“A helmet has always been something which readily identifies a football program,” Lamb said. “The helmet will be the brand for Mercer football; it’s what we will be selling to the community and fans.

“It is a huge decision. It was important to be able to include alumni, students, staff and fans in the choice of a helmet because it is Mercer’s football team.”
