MACON — New York Times best-selling author and Mercer University law alumnus Steve Berry will speak Feb. 3 at noon in the Moot Court Room of the Mercer Law School. Following the presentation will be a question and answer session for Berry, as well as a book signing. The event is free and open to the public.
Berry’s latest book, titled The Columbus Affair, will be published in May. He is also the author of best-sellers such as The Jefferson Key, The Emperor’s Tomb, The Paris Vendetta, The Charlemagne Pursuit, The Venetian Betrayal, The Alexandra Link, The Templar Legacy, The Third Secret, The Romanov Prophecy and The Amber Room. Berry’s work has been translated into 40 languages, and he has had more than 12 million books printed in 51 countries.
Berry is in Macon as part of the Historic Macon event celebrating legendary Macon native Sidney Lanier’s 170th birthday. He will offer a salute to Lanier from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Armory Ballroom, 484 First St., including a reception, presentation and book signing. Tickets for that event are $35. On Saturday, Feb. 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Berry will give a writers’ workshop, “Lessons from a Bestseller,” at the Sidney Lanier Cottage, 935 High St. for $85. He will be teaching the craft of writing, including story structure, effective dialog, point of view and his 11 Rules of Writing. The workshop includes a talk on the business of publishing by International Thriller Writers Executive Director Elizabeth Berry. Tickets to both events can be purchased for $100. In 2010, Berry and his wife, Elizabeth, co-founded History Matters, a nonprofit dedicated to aiding various historic preservation projects. Berry is also the former president and founding member of International Thriller Writers.
